Legendary singer and entertainer Beyoncé Knowles-Carter has become the sole owner of SirDavis American Whiskey, her premium whisky brand.
Knowles-Carter launched SirDavis whisky on her birthday in 2024, shortly after the release of her eighth studio album, “Cowboy Carter”.
French luxury company Moët sold its stake in the brand, giving the 35-time Grammy winner sole control and ownership of the company. According to a spokesperson for Sir Davis, “Knowles-Carter takes full ownership and control, making Sir Davis a woman-, family- and Black-owned company.”
Sir Davis serves as a tribute to Knowles-Carter’s paternal great-grandfather, Davis Hogue, who worked as a farmer and moonshiner during the Prohibition era. The launch of Sir Davis acted as an extension of the artist’s “Cowboy Carter” era. The album, which highlighted Black Americans’ erasure in the country genre, also emphasized their pivotal impact on American identity and patriotism.
“When I discovered that my great-grandfather had been a moonshine man, it felt like my love for whisky was fated. SirDavis is a way for me to pay homage to him, uniting us through a new shared legacy.” Beyoncé stated in an official LVMH press release announcing the brand.

This acquisition is just another success within Knowles-Carter’s extensive entrepreneurship catalog. Outside of entertainment, the singer has successfully explored industries including haircare and fashion. The companies’ shift to independent ownership helps to deepen the brand’s legacy and contribute to the growing number of Black female-owned liquor brands in the country,
